Unlike the rest of the Bay Area, San Francisco thrives when it comes to art galleries, whether you want to visit installations, spatial or just simple photography, San Francisco is the mecca for art. Here are some historical and must-visit galleries.
The Fraenkel Gallery specializes in Fine Art Photography, historical photography, and the historic Masters of the craft. The gallery opened 1979 on 49 Geary St. #450, and has shown 300 different shows. The photographers represented by the gallery include Hiroshi Sugimoto, Diane Arbus, and Lee Friedlander. The gallery only shows museum quality art pieces. Past shows include Edward Weston, Sol LiWitt, and the Bechers.

Robert Tat Gallery
The Robert Tat Gallery specializes in historical photography, especially the period between World War 1 and World War II. The gallery shows the work of modern Masters of Photography, found photographs, salon photographs, vernacular photographs, and historical images. Due to the extent of the galleries collection and access to rare or unusual photographs, this is a great gallery for collectors to visit. If it is not hanging on the wall, the gallery staff can check their archives for the artist of style requested images.
